The patterns and textures of bark, leaves, grass, dirt, moss, turtle shells and cicadas are what drives my current work. I am using these devices to develop oil paintings as well as embroidered pictures. Nature’s wealth of information aids in fleshing out my visual vocabulary.

I use this patterns and textures in conjunction with my own color palette to describe the objects that I find in nature. I take what I am attracted to and bring it to my studio either in the form of a black and white photograph or the object itself.

I choose to use black and white printouts of images so that I can interject my own color schemes on nature. The colors that I choose can be based in nature but more often reflect my memories of man-made objects and colors.

The use of the hyperbolic colors help me come to terms with my own feelings about the overwhelming beauty that nature has and my lack of connection with it.
